XI. 1862 - Bills were introduced in Congress to establish a new mining territory in the Pacific Northwest. Though at one point the proposed territory was renamed Montana before the bill made it through the House, the name was changed back to Idaho in the Senate.
XII. Idaho became a territory on March 4, 1863. Statehood: July 3, 1990.
